Search engine optimisation

An increasingly large proportion of people on the web use search engines, especially Google, to find the sites they want. However good your site, if people don't find it you won't do any business. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) ensures the search engines find your site and give it a good ranking.

SEO is a sophisticated process, we cannot go through all the aspects of it in detail but it can be broken down into the following basic stages.

The SEO race

There is enormous competition for the top places in the search results, because people tend to click on the results at the top of the list. Understandable enough as Google delivers results in order of relevance to your search.

Site owners are constantly trying to manipulate the results in favour of their own sites, search engines respond by adjusting the criteria for ranking. Because of some clumsy attempts to get around the way the search engines work, sites can be dramatically downgraded or deleted entirely from search engines. We only use ethical SEO techniques so you don't run this risk.

What SEO involves

These are some, but not all of the factors that can influence the ranking of your site.

In most cases your site can be optimised for search engines with little or no effect on look & feel or functionality.

Because of the constant race between the search engines and site owners, SEO has to be repeated regularly to keep your site high in the rankings. The interval depends on the level of competition in your particular market.
